Hi everyone, The main conference schedule for the upcoming OpenStack Summit in Austin <https://www.openstack.org/summit/austin-2016/> is now available! Everyone who submitted a speaking proposal for the Summit will soon receive an email notification to let them know whether or not their talk is accepted. The email sent to selected speakers was sent from speakersupport(a)openstack.org <mailto:speakersupport@openstack.org> and contains important next steps and their speaker registration code. Each speaker is responsible for registering themselves to attend the Summit. Please make sure your colleagues read the email and complete this step. MOBILE APP In mid April the schedule mobile app will also be available for download. We will notify the community at that time. Contact summit(a)openstack.org with any questions. See you in Austin! [openstack-community] Groups Portal Discontinuation

Hi everyone, I think most of you are aware that we’ve launched a Meetup Pro account <https://www.meetup.com/pro/osf/> so we could take on the cost of Meetup from the local organizers. We currently have 16 official User Groups on the page. As of the third week of April, the groups.openstack.org <http://groups.openstack.org/> portal will be discontinued. We’d like to take this opportunity to start an initiative to move all User Groups <https://groups.openstack.org/groups> over to the Meetup Pro account for a single point of truth. This will increase discoverability for groups, and help us better support community growth. In light of the feedback we’ve received from you all, we’ll encourage groups to have at least 4 meetups per year (one meetup per quarter) going forward as a minimum requirement for being in the Meetup Pro network. However, we realize that circumstances that might prevent you from having meetups happen. In that case, please feel free to reach out directly to me. We really want to work with you all to make sure our community is supported so it can continue growing. User Group 6 Month Trial We’ll be offering a 6 month trial period, where the Foundation will temporarily sponsor groups to be on the Pro account (which costs USD $15/month per group). We’ve previously required groups to have at least 5-6 meetups per year in order to be funded, but If the group has at least 2 independent meetups during this 6 month period, we will continue funding the group to be a part of the official network. If groups fail to host meetups, and do not contact me, the funding will be discontinued and it won’t be visible on the Foundation’s official community network. Next Steps If you are the main organizer of your group, email me (ashlee(a)openstack.org), and I’ll send a link to connect your Meetup account to our Foundation Meetup Pro network. If you don’t have a Meetup account, and you do not wish to use Meetup.com <http://meetup.com/>, please send me the link to your group’s page, or let me know how you coordinate meetups. Hi, i am using OpenStack "Mitaka" and we have 3 controllers and 3 computes on our environment and all managed by Fuel server. recently i implemented a Veeam backup Server in our environment and in order to backup the computes and the controllers i need to open ssh to them directly because Veeam not support ssh tunnel via Fuel server. can anyone explain me how ? Hello all , I am planning to teach a course on Cloud computing at a local University in mid Jan 2020, where my entire goal is to enable learning to come from experience to accompany the course theory. My main idea, however, is to engage with one-or-more Openstack team lead(s) to focus on a couple of small low priority features and/or bug fixes where an undergraduate class can deliver them. Note that the students currently have no exposure to Openstack or the technologies used therin --- but I will work with the Openstack curricula that was setup by Ildiko to get them onboarded. Furthermore, I am very much engaged in getting to work with the PTL to teach any theoretical part of the projects needed before they engage. Any takers? Please contact me. [openstack-community] openstack volume snapshots and deleting

If I create a volume, snapshot it, and create a new volume from that snapshot, I cannot seem to delete the snapshot until the volume is deleted. Is this intentional, or am I doing something wrong? Is the new volume based on the snapshot, and that's why I can't delete it? We're using CEPH as a storage backend if that makes a difference. openstack volume snapshot create -volume base-volume base-ss openstack volume create -snapshot base-ss new-volume openstack volume snapshot delete base-ss The last command is the one that fails. It gives no error message. It just doesn't actually delete the snapshot. But If I do this: openstack volume delete new-volume openstack volume snapshot delete base-ss Then it works. I also tried creating a snapshot, creating a volume from the snapshot, then creating a volume from that volume, but I still cannot delete the snapshot until both volumes are deleted. I do not want everlasting snapshots, so I hope I'm doing something wrong that someone can point out. Thanks. --John

Is there an environment variable or command line option I can use to grab a token from the command line with a longer than one hour expiration time? Is it possible to refresh the token without reauthenticating? Thanks. --John

[openstack-community] how do I revert a volume snapshot?

I am trying to create an instance that I can revert to a snapshot. I created the snapshot with openstack volume snapshot create, but I don't see a way to revert the instance to that image. What can I do to make use of the snapshot? Thanks. --John Ratliff

Does the openstack server stop command do an ACPI shutdown or does it do the equivalent of pulling the power plug? I want to know if it's safe to run this command rather than logging into the machine and running shutdown (for say a RHEL7 instance). If it does an ACPI shutdown, what happens if the machine doesn't respond? Is there a command to force the machine off? Thanks. --John
