7th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing (UCC 2014) December 8-11, 2014, London, UK http://computing.derby.ac.uk/ucc2014/ Context and Scope Cloud Computing promises to deliver computational resources on demand as services that are commoditised and delivered as in traditional utilities such as electricity, gas, water and telephony. Utility with Cloud services can already be achieved for compute, storage and communication resources but also for hosted software and data. UCC is the premier IEEE/ACM conference covering all areas related to Cloud Computing as a Utility. There is also increasing interest from commercial providers to offer business and revenue models around the services they offer. Understanding how these model could be used to provide utility for both users, intermediary brokers (aggregators) and providers will also be of interest for this conference. This will be the 7th UCC in a successful conference series. Previous events were held in Shanghai, China (Cloud 2009), Melbourne, Australia (Cloud 2010 & UCC 2011), Chennai, India (UCC 2010), Chicago, USA (UCC 2012), and Dresden, Germany (UCC2013). UCC 2014 happens while cloud providers worldwide add new services and increase utility at an accelerated pace and is therefore of high relevance for both academic and industrial research. Topics of interest include: * Big Data and Analytics * Principles and theoretical foundations of Utility Computing, including pricing and service models * Policy languages and Programming models * Architectural models to achieve Utility in Clouds * Designs and deployment models for Clouds: private, public, hybrid, federated, aggregated * Cloud Computing middleware, stacks, tools, delivery networks and services at all layers (XaaS) * Virtualisation technologies and other enablers * Economic models and scenarios of use * Scalability and resource management: brokering, scheduling, capacity planning, parallelism and elasticity, as well as marketplaces * Cloud management: autonomic, adaptive, self-*, SLAs, performance models and monitoring * Applications: games, social networks, scientific computing (e-science) and business * Mobile and energy-efficient use of Clouds * Beyond technology: Cloud business and legal implications, such as security, privacy, trust and jurisdiction especially in Utility contextsImportant Dates Tutorials Proposals: August 15, 2014 (Extended Deadline) Paper Submissions Due: August 5, 2014 (Extended Deadline) Notification of Acceptance: 29 August, 2014 Early Registration Deadline: 29 September, 2014 Paper Submission Authors are invited to submit papers electronically through EasyChair(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ucc2014) . [openstack-community] Groups portal live

Hello folks, the groups portal is now live at http://groups.openstack.org. It's still limited in what it can do but it already looks better than the simple wiki pages we have been using. Marton Kiss is the lead developer, the portal is based on Drupal, with fully automated CI behind it: we hope there will be lots of patches coming in. The portal is replacing the content of some wiki pages [1] (we'll start deprecating them shortly). Besides the map, the portal sports a very nice list of events pulled from each group hosted on meetup.com. Visitors to the site will be able to see the list of known events on http://groups.openstack.org/events. We're using the shiny new Storyboard to track bugs and keep the roadmap. https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/project/704 If you run a user group not hosted on meetup.com and you have different sources for the list of events, please file a new task on Storyboard to this story: https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/178 The map and the searchable database of user groups is built out of this json file: http://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack-infra/groups-static-pages/tree/grou… If you see your group missing, you can either propose a change to the json file (if you're familiar with git/gerrit workflow) or simply file a request on Storyboard. Since we had already setup a module capable of importing markdown content we thought of using the well tested workflow based on gerrit and git-review. We will consider implementing the natural Drupal-based workflow in the future. Q - How do I login? A - We're going to enable logging in the portal as soon as the OpenStack OpenID portal is launched. This shouldn't take more than 4-6 weeks. In case things seem to take any longer we'll evaluate other alternatives. Q - You seem to be importing events only from meetup.com. Can you add more sources? [openstack-community] "official" user group process

Hi all, As Stefano mentioned, we will soon be launching the new user group portal to make it easier to find group information and events. Rather than having a long list on the wiki, we will now have individual pages for the user groups - searchable through a map. To raise the visibility of active and established groups, we'd like to give them some kind of "official" status and potentially a special logo. Stef, the ambassadors and myself have written up a quick draft on a process that we might follow to manage the way user groups become "Official". The day is dedicated to talks and discussions related to the OpenStack project.
