Please help us survey as a many openstack users as possible by February 20th! Openstack.org/usersurvey The deployment section is the most important, as it helps the community understand how people are deploying openstack. If your company is part of the ecosystem, I recommend having as many of your customer as possible fill it out to best represent the mix of deployments in the market using your products. Several of the questions were provided by PTLs to help inform discussions at next week’s PTG, so please help us get the word out! Thanks! Mark

Dear Board, We have an ambitious goal for the coming three weeks: boost User Survey participation from 1,600 people last year to 2,000 this cycle. To reach this goal, we need your help—please invite your customers and colleagues to take the User Survey! The deadline to fill out the survey is February 20 at 23:59 UTC/16:59 Pacific. It doesn’t matter if you’re a business leader, developer, user, cloud architect, marketer, or IT leader. We hope every OpenStack member will take the time to answer our ninth semiannual User Survey. If you operate an OpenStack cloud, we’ll ask you a deeper set of questions that helps us understand your technology choices so we can provide feedback to development teams. Directors, I would like to suggest the following dates/times for 2017 board meetings. I picked these dates mostly from avoiding conflicts with other industry related events. Please let me know the collisions I've missed. Board Members, I wanted to let you know that it has been great working directly with such a dedicated group of people. I have been very proud to help OpenStack go from an idea for a new open community to the largest open community we have ever seen. Serving on the board since the beginning has been a great experience. I now have other responsibilities that are pressing me for more of my time and sadly will not be able to participate in the board. Brad Topol, who most of you probably know through the Interop Challenge work, will be taking my seat as the IBM Board of Directors appointee. Brad too has been with OpenStack for many years. OpenStack 2016 Annual Report

Hi everyone, Today we published the OpenStack Foundation 2016 Annual Report: https://www.openstack.org/assets/reports/OpenStack-2016-Annual-Report-final… Thank you to all of the community members who contributed to the report, and to Heidi Joy for putting it together. The report includes key stats, as well as updates from the Board of Directors, Foundation staff, Technical Committee, Board Committees and Working Groups. We had a busy year in 2016, and it’s great to see our collective efforts documented. 2016 was a big year for OpenStack. We had our most substantial software releases, our best-attended Summits, our broadest set of global OpenStack Days, reached our largest footprint of public cloud providers, and learned about bigger deployments and projects using OpenStack. We saw organizations as varied as AT&T, Volkswagen Group, China Mobile, Banco Santander, and Cambridge University give keynote presentations about driving innovation with the software our community develops. And we saw new companies invest in our community, especially from China and the telecom sector. We started to see the power of the “one platform” concept with virtualization, bare metal and containers working together to run versatile workloads. From the OpenStack and Kubernetes demos in Austin to the OpenStack and OPNFV telecom demo in Barcelona, we saw how collaboration and technology integrations deliver practical value. But 2016 was also a year of changes in the industry and in our community, whether it be emerging technologies or shifts in the ecosystem. As we look forward to 2017, more change is on the horizon and collaboration within our community and beyond is more important than ever. The way we react and adapt in this period of change will have a huge impact on the role OpenStack plays in the future of IT. With a strong, diverse community and clear mission, there’s nothing we can’t achieve together. Today we kick off 2017 with the first Board meeting, in which we'll seat new members from the recent election. We look forward to supporting and working closely with all of you this year!
