Hi, I'm reaching out to you as a follow up to one of the ideas that was brought up during the OpenInfra Board of Directors (BoD) meeting in Berlin on June 6, called Community Blueprint. The prupose of this email is to raise awareness of the activities around the idea and invite you to participate in next steps, if you are interested. A few of us from the OpenInfra Foundation staff and BoD met recently to discuss the idea in a bit more details and identify goals and next steps. Highlights from our conversation include: * Goals - Create a playbook that new projects can use to make well-informed choices in areas such as licensing, governance, community structure and more - Beyond documenting processes and tools, the playbook will also discuss expectations, i.e.: what commitments the project founders will have, what the ecosystem and community expects from them - The playbook is intended to be used by prospective new OpenInfra projects, and in addition showing thought leadership in the open source ecosystem * Playbook documents - Target audience + 1st stage: Managers and executives to understand what it means and entails to do something in open source + 2nd stage: Contributors and developers - Seed content: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/hflJmbl2SGsD0Pkkr-Sa - Repository: https://opendev.org/openinfra/way * Further background - We went through an overview of the original idea that was targeting the balance and sustainability of the open source ecosystem, and the OpenInfra Foundation's opportunity to provide guidance to our current and prospective projects as well as the ecosystem at large - We looked into the history of long-existing open source projects as well as the current trend of mass-creation of new projects + Experienced contributors can help build and maintain community culture + New projects without experienced members can easily become dysfunctional without the community noticing —> These models are also replicating in the current ecosystem by projects following bad examples * Next steps - Use the new Git repository and seed content linked above to start outlining the document structure and content For more detailed notes of our conversation please see the following etherpad: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/community-blueprint If you have any question or would like to participate in the effort please reply to this thread or reach out to me directly. Proposed times for meeting with projects

Greetings Directors, Many of the projects have proposed potential times to meet for an hour in order to build better communication between the board and the various project's leaders. Zuul: - July 26th, 27th, 28th, or August 2nd, 3rd, or 4th at a time friendly to US-Pacific mornings or Afternoons. StarlingX: - August 2nd @ 1300 UTC - August 3rd @ 1300 UTC - August 4th @ 1300 UTC - Preferred OpenStack: - 1st preference for Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 20:00-21:00 UTC - 2nd choice Thursday, August 18, 2022 - 20:00-21:00 UTC - 3rd option Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - 15:00-16:00 UTC Kata: - Tuesday, August 9, 2022 - 07:00 - 08:00 UTC - Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 12:00 - 13:00 UTC - Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - 15:00 - 16:00 UTC That being said, there are many different time windows to choose from. I suspect these times below might work out well and if there are no objections or other times proposed, then I think we can StarlingX on August 4th at 13:00 UTC. October PTG Update

Hi everyone, I wanted to provide an update on the October Project Teams Gathering (PTG). After discussing with community members and prospective sponsors, we have made the decision to pivot the event to 100% virtual to make the event as inclusive as possible. I know that this is not the ideal outcome and there are a lot of factors contributing to this decision, but we think it’s the best decision for the community. We are continuing to receive feedback on the value and importance of in-person PTGs; we just need to wait for other factors to be less of an obstacle. We have already notified the participants who were already registered and provided full refunds. We will be posting on the project mailing lists momentarily. We are going to use the same week for a virtual PTG and it will be free to attend, just like the previous ones. The registration is already live [1]. If you have any questions or feedback on this decision, please let us know. We will continue to monitor feedback as we make plans for a 2023 PTG. However, it sounds like maybe it is best to look at next month? Let me know if that is the case and I'll help sort out what times work best in September. Clark
