Travel Support Committee - Tokyo Summit

Dear Board of Directors, We’re putting together the committee for the Tokyo Summit Travel Support Program <https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Travel_Support_Program>, which opened yesterday, and we are looking for 3 board members to join. Every year we have 3 members from the Board of Directors, Technical Committee, User Committee, Ambassadors and Foundation staff. For the previous Summit we had Alan Clark, Russell Bryant and Steve Hallett serve as committee members from the Board and we’re looking for three new individuals to join us this year. A big thank you to them! We were able to fund the accommodation and flight costs of 28 key contributors (some of whom are gathered in this photo <https://www.dropbox.com/s/ebsdii1nqns0fat/Travel%20Support%20Program%20Reci…>). Applications will close August 10 and the Travel Committee will have from August 11 - 25 to submit their votes. If you are available sometime during this timeframe (August 11-25) for approximately 2-4 hours and are interested in being part of the Travel Support Committee, please let me know by end of next week. The first three individuals who reply will be selected. With the OpenStack Summit slated for October 27 - 30th, the October Board meeting will be held on Monday October 26. The meeting will start at 9am. Meeting Date: Monday October 26, 2015 Time: 9:00am Tokyo to 2:00pm, followed by a joint Board and TC meeting from 2:30 to 5:30pm Location: OpenStack Tokyo Summit I corrected the board wiki page. Written plan for the CLA work?

Hello everyone! We had a discussion about the ongoing CCLA/ICLA/DCO work at the Vancouver board meeting. I think most people came out of that feeling like there was a pretty good plan in place. Since then I've received some questions for clarification and status on that plan. Is the plan written down anywhere public that interested people can refer to? If not, who would be best to capture it? This may also be a useful thing to put on the agenda for the board meeting in July. I don't expect a long discussion, hopefully just a status update. ATC status for translators

Hello, everyone. I noticed that the requested topics for the next board meeting [1] includes "ATC recognition for contributors". Based on some brief discussion at the "high 5" chat at the end of the last summit, I suspect this is related to people hearing concerns about providing ATC status for translation contributors. For more information about ATC status, see the TC charter [2]. In particular: > The work of project teams is performed under the oversight of the TC. > Contributing to one of their associated code repositories grants you > ATC status (see below). The TC has ultimate authority over which > project teams are designated as official OpenStack projects. ... > The TC seats are elected by the Active Technical Contributors > (“ATC”), which are a subset of the Foundation Individual Members. > Individual Members who committed a change to a repository under > ‘’any’’ of the official OpenStack Project Teams (as defined above) > over the last two 6-month release cycles are automatically considered > ATC. Specific contributors who did not have a change recently > accepted in one of the OpenStack projects but nevertheless feel their > contribution to the OpenStack project is technical in nature (bug > triagers, technical documentation writers...) can exceptionally apply > for ATC either by sending an email to the TC chair or by being > nominated by an existing ATC via email to the TC chair. We've had a mechanism to recognize extra types of contributions with ATC status for a while, but I do not recall it ever being used for translators. However, the TC has now approved an internationalization team: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/184920/ In the commit message, it references how we will be able to pull stats from the translation tool to get contributor info. As an official OpenStack project team, their contributions will be counted toward ATC status going forward. Thanks for electing Parallels/Odin as an OpenStack Gold member

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to say hello to all the Gold members and Board of OpenStack, and thank you for electing us. We're looking forwards to working with you all in open source and trying to bring our service provider customers closer to OpenStack. I thought it might also be opportune to explain the relationship between Odin and Parallels, since most of you have seen the Odin signs on our booth in Vancouver. Odin is essentially a rebrand of the Service Provider side of the business with the Consumer Products side (the one that produces Desktop for Mac) keeping the Parallels brand. The corporate entity which houses us is still called Parallels, Inc. The reason for doing this is brand separation and the avoidance of brand confusion. To illustrate the problem: at our booth in OpenStack Atlanta, we ended up fielding a lot of desktop for Mac questions ... including a couple about what on earth desktop for Mac had to do with OpenStack. At our booth in Vancouver, we didn't get any desktop for Mac questions at all. Finally, Parallels and now Odin have been on a fairly long journey in Open Source. The initial strong push began in 2011 where we were instrumental in setting up the containers meeting at the Kernel summit which lead to the unification of containers technology inside the Linux Kernel. The announcement that OpenVZ rather than being a throw it over the wall release, will be a fully open source upstream product (with open mailing lists, repositories and development processes): http://lists.openvz.org/pipermail/announce/2015-June/000592.html represents the completion of the first stage (of course, the journey itself is never over). Those of you who've been on a similar journey will recognise this means that we're also embracing an open source business model for at least our containers business. And part of this embrace means that we're very much interested in open source governance, because good governance is essential to our open source business strategy, so we're looking forwards to contributing in this area as well as stepping up our code contributions. Hello Fellow Board Members, In my mind, part of being a good board member is keeping up with current OpenStack developments. I am not currently working on OpenStack, and I don't have the time to stay abreast of all of the great stuff coming down the pipe. Therefore, with a heavy heart, I wanted to let you know that I have tendered my resignation from the board. It has been an absolute pleasure working with all of you, and I hope to find my way back to OpenStack again.
