So far, we have nearly 1,400 surveys and more than 550 deployments—that’s 40% more than our largest survey ever! As promised, we shared the PTL-submitted questions data that came in by Feb. 20 with PTLs prior to the Project Teams Gathering in Atlanta, to inform their conversations. We also extended the survey open period to ensure the largest possible community participation, and it closes tonight. I’m excited to dig into the data with the User Survey working group. Many thanks to this team for QA testing before the survey was released, and for the upcoming tasks of comment analysis, data analysis and report draft review. OpenStack Ocata launches tomorrow—key features & resources for you

Dear Board, Gold Sponsors and Marketing Community, OpenStack Ocata will be released tomorrow, Feb. 22, with a focus on manageability and scalability of the core infrastructure services, as well as improved container integration. With this, OpenStack provides unique value as an integration engine for containers, VMs and bare metal on a single network. The 15th release of OpenStack was a shorter, stabilization cycle (four months vs. six months) as we adjust to the new PTG/Forum model. A key trend we highlighted in press and analyst briefings for the Ocata release was cost savings for OpenStack private cloud users, especially as we saw Snap Inc.’s IPO filing highlight the cost of GCE & AWS public cloud at scale. OpenStack users are becoming more sophisticated in allocating workloads across public and private clouds to take advantage of cost savings, performance gains and compliance. In fact, 72% of OpenStack users cite cost savings as their number one business driver, according to the latest User Survey. We’re also seeing a trend around managed services and specifically remotely managed private clouds, meaning enterprises do not need to employ large technical teams to run an OpenStack environment. Two examples of OpenStack users experiencing cost savings are Snapdeal <http://www.financialexpress.com/industry/snapdeals-hybrid-cloud-snapdeal-re…> and Pubmatic <http://www.computerworlduk.com/cloud-computing/pubmatic-cloud-chief-on-his-…>. In briefings, we fielded many questions about OpenStack's support for container-based application frameworks and deployment tools. Container projects Kolla (containerized OpenStack services), Kuryr (bridging container networking and storage with OpenStack) and Zun (container management) saw the most contributor growth during the Ocata release cycle. Additionally: Magnum now supports DC/OS as a cluster type and Kubernetes support now includes the new SUSE distribution Kolla support for Kubernetes at the control plane Kuryr container networking service now supports Docker Swarm The new Fuxi (“FOO-si”) subproject of Kuryr connects Cinder and Manila storage to container environments Many thanks to the 1,925 developers representing 265 organizations who contributed to the Ocata release. Please help us survey as a many openstack users as possible by February 20th! Openstack.org/usersurvey The deployment section is the most important, as it helps the community understand how people are deploying openstack. If your company is part of the ecosystem, I recommend having as many of your customer as possible fill it out to best represent the mix of deployments in the market using your products. Dear Board, We have an ambitious goal for the coming three weeks: boost User Survey participation from 1,600 people last year to 2,000 this cycle. To reach this goal, we need your help—please invite your customers and colleagues to take the User Survey! The deadline to fill out the survey is February 20 at 23:59 UTC/16:59 Pacific. It doesn’t matter if you’re a business leader, developer, user, cloud architect, marketer, or IT leader. We hope every OpenStack member will take the time to answer our ninth semiannual User Survey. The survey asks everyone a few basic questions—how and why do you work with OpenStack, what do you like about it, and where can we improve? If you operate an OpenStack cloud, we’ll ask you a deeper set of questions that helps us understand your technology choices so we can provide feedback to development teams. What can OpenStack board members do to help? Answer the survey. It should take 5-10 minutes, and an additional 10 minutes if you fill out information about your cloud. Straw targets for 2017 Board meeting dates/times

Directors, I would like to suggest the following dates/times for 2017 board meetings. I picked these dates mostly from avoiding conflicts with other industry related events. Please let me know the collisions I've missed. Jan 31, 1 -3pm pacific - conf call Feb 24, All day F2F at PTG, Atlanta April 11, 7-9am pacific - conf call May 12, All day F2F at Boston Summit June 20, 1-3pm pacific - conf call August 22, 7-9am pacific - conf call September XX, All day F2F at PTG October 3, 1-3pm pacific - conf call November 9, All day F2F at Sydney Summit December 5, 7-9am pacific - conf call Don't put these on your calendar yet.
