[openstack-community] No Connectivity between VMs on different compute nodes

Dear All, My problem is that my VMs on different compute nodes are not communicating with each other (no ICMP/TCP/UDP connectivity). VMs on the same compute node can reach each other. The arp packets is flooded across the data path network but no reply is generated from the destination VM. I have a multi-node openstack havana deployment as follows:Controller (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)Compute (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)Compute (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)Compute (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic) I have configured two networks:External (172.17.25.x)Internal (192.168.1.x) I have a router which connects these two networks:Port 1 on external network with ip=172.17.25.xPort 2 on internal network with ip=192.168.1.1 I have multiple virtual machines running on all the 3 compute nodes on 192.168.1.x network.Here is what i have done so far to debug the issue: 1. I have verified the bridging information on control and compute nodesPackets leave the eth2 interface of the source VM's compute node and enter into the eth2 interface of the destination VM's compute node.The packets are being received by the br-compute and the vlans are also being translatedbr-int is not receiving the packets from br-compute and thus VM doesnt reply to the ARP packet.I have also dumped flows and checked the rules on the bridges and found 1 rule on br-compute which is translating the vlans but no rule on the br-int to re-translate the vlans back. I have added the rule myself but of no avail.Both the VMs are on the same vlan & physical switch is configured to allow all VLAN traffic on all interfaces Compute Bridging info:--> br-int = vm taps + int-br-compute--> br-compute = eth2 + phy-br-compute If anyone can help me out with this then that would be great. OpenStack Community: The survey is an experience and opinion survey. Opinions solicited include willingness to recommend OpenStack for different cloud environments, why they have or have not recommended OpenStack, and ratings of OpenStack for specific deployments. [openstack-community] Internal Software Testing Cloud using spare hardware

Hi, I have been trying to get networking working in a 'simple' internal cloud for a couple of months now and I am beginning to give up. This internal cloud would be used for software testing distributed systems. There are no external users, no multi tenancy. Basically I have 4 spare mounted machines, nothing special. * Two that don't support hardware virtualisation. These would make good controllers / LXC compute nodes. * Two that do support hardware virtualisation. So I was planning to use KVM here. * One managed 1Gbps switch (although I've not made use of the managed features yet) * One unmanaged 100Mbs switch (I almost want to throw this way) * Each machine has two network ports, one internal and one external. * I don't have control over the gateway router in the external LAN that the machines are connected to Basically what I'd like to do is have a multi (compute) host cloud that supports VMs with two interfaces, one public interface with a routable ip (on the private LAN, but outside the cloud) and one private (only routable within the cloud). The attractive thing about this setup is from the point of the view of the software running in the cloud it mimics the basic setup in public clouds. So if we needed to scale up we could point our scripts to a different cloud and still take advantage of low traffic costs on their 'internal' networks. Its the networking that is the major problem for me. Not really knowing what networking daemon was necessary, I started out with nova-network. This almost worked but it was hard to support two guest networks. It might have worked if it were possible to run two dhcp servers on one bridge (a limitation of nova-network daemon caused the second dhcp server to overwrite the config of the first!). Another way it might have worked would have been if linux bridge let you connect a real port to two bridges or bridges to one another, but it doesn't. So then I tried neutron but the guides that I found were vague and had surprising hardware requirements, like * Need a managed switch (in addition to OVS!) * Need an external router (disappointing given that nova network had a software router on each compute node!) These requirements seemed to be because of the extra security needed for multi-tenancy that were not relevant to my use case. But after having tried many different permutations of settings in neutron I can't see a way forward. Is what I am doing impossible? Frank

I think this kind of topic would be a great opportunity to showcase usage of Eclipse and PyDev and to show Eclipse for doing other things than Java or Web or Modeling stuff.
