Solum: Open Development From Day One
<http://www.rackspace.com/blog/solum-open-development-from-day-one/>
Solum is a project designed to make cloud services easier to consume and
integrate into your application development process. Solum begins as a
shared vision, not a complete product. It's a vision that a coalition of
contributors believes in and wants to contribute to. For this to work,
everything has to be designed and developed in the open from the very
beginning. We're taking the OpenStack commitment to core values of open
development, open design and open community right to heart. Kudos to
Rackspace, eBay, RedHat, Ubuntu/Canonical, dotCloud/Docker, Cloudsoft
and Cumulogic for spearheading this effort.
An analysis of the Technical Committee election
<http://fnords.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/an-analysis-of-the-technical-committ…>
Thierry Carrez <http://fnords.wordpress.com/> played around with the
ballots from the election of the Technical Committee. Since detailed
ballot reporting was enabled in the past elections, it is possible to
test alternative algorithms and run various analysis over the data set.
As an official for this election, Thierry published his analysis of the
results
<http://www.cs.cornell.edu/w8/%7Eandru/cgi-perl/civs/results.pl?id=E_5ef3f04…>,
hoping it will help in the current discussion on a potential evolution
of the Foundation individual members voting system.
OpenStack Havana -- the Quality Perspective
<http://dague.net/2013/10/21/openstack-havana-the-quality-perspective/>
With Havana out in the wild, Sean Dague <http://dague.net/> reviews the
improvements made to the gating infrastructure during this release
cycle. Beyond just increasing the number of tests we run, we made some
changes in the nature of what we do in the gate. These changes are easy
to overlook: Sean's post gives a perspective in everything that's going
on behind the scenes when you try to land code in OpenStack.

Hi,
Thanks for using OpenStack!
This list is for discussions about user groups. Please ask your
questions in future on the OpenStack
(http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack) or
OpenStack-Operators
(http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-operators) mailing
list.
Regarding your errors:
these mean that your nova-api server cannot contact your nova-network
server.
This is either because
1) The nova-network service is not running
2) There is a network problem between the server running nova-api and
the server running nova-network
Regards,
Tom

*Athens OpenStack User Group meeting
*
Join us on Thursday 14th November, 7PM
@OpenStack <https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStack> #OSATH
The Athens OpenStack User Group invite you to attend the fourth meeting
for OpenStack in Greece.
*
Athens OpenStack User Group meeting on Thursday 14th November, 7PM at
CoLab Athens, Petraki 28, Syntagma.
**
**Topic: Workshop on deploying OpenStack*
During this meeting it is planned to have a short workshop on deploying
OpenStack for development and testing purposes.
For this we are going to use DevStack (http://devstack.org/) that is
considered and recommended by the community for such objectives.
Bring your own laptop and be prepared for new VMs creation (vagrant,
VirtualBox, VM player or your choice).
RSVP via www.meetup.com/Athens-OpenStack-User-Group/events/146023992/
More updates via @parathyras @colabathens
with my best regards,
Thanassis Parathyras

BTW, in my environment, eth4 is the internal interface, and eth0 will be the public/bridge interface.
I tried many times, including reinstall the OS and openstack packages, the same error. Can anybody help on it ?

BTW, in my environment, eth4 is the internal interface, and eth0 will be the public/bridge interface.
I tried many times, including reinstall the OS and openstack packages, the same error. Can anybody help on it ?

Hi, all
OpenStack Havana was released last Thursday.
The release notes describe key new features, known bugs and upgrade tips,
which are the summary of 6-month work and can be used as the
"advertisement".
I18n team are translating Havana release notes into multiple languages.
We have done the translation in simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Other languages, e.g. Tradtional Chinese, Portuguese, German, Polish, and
Hindi,
are under processing now.
Here are the links:
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/ReleaseNotes/Havana/zh_cn
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/ReleaseNotes/Havana/ja
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/ReleaseNotes/Havana/ko_KR
Chinese, Japanese and Korean people, who are interested in Havana release,
can use
their native language to understand the new features of OpenStack.
Community leaders can distribute the localized release notes to your
community
to advertise the new release too.
I18n team will continuously support OpenStack I18n features.
Any questions or feedbacks, please contact with us:
openstack-i18n(a)lists.openstack.org.

[openstack-community] Proposal: USer GRoup, University, Academy Program and Student
by Frans Thamura 21 Oct '13

Hi All
based on our last discussion about student program, mau be student
ambasador, and working with user group or not..
i think we should make several thing, esp the Tutorial in OpenStack,
become mainstream in the future, thx for Kavit that gave this again..
http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/training-guide/content/bk001-associate-trai…
based on my experience in user group development in java, user group
and material education become key point to grow community and user and
brand.
i propose we have 3 program , user group program, university program
and academy program, and i think student ambasador will work special
in all of them
1. student in user group help evangelism, and meet up
2. university, they can become trainer , my opinion university also
can held in company as training center.
3. academy program, mostly embed the material above and openstack
under curriculum, inside lab as school practicum.
what do u think?
NB: i cc to the general, because i think several partner of openstack
do training also, like morphlab , redhat etc.. let them also create
their own univ and academy and their own brand oriented user group

Hi,
I would like to know if community supports formation of student chapters at
Universities to reach out to the students?
Being a student I personally feel it would be a good method to reach out to
the students community.
If not Student Chapters, then instead of User groups, how would be the idea
of Interest groups at University level? User groups could be for developers.

Hi Community,
I've been wondering how the community would feel about (more) stats. I'm
particularly interested in country/regional contribution stats, in the
short term for the summit and longer term for the Foundation membership.
It's great to see company contribution stats but I think there's another
set of stats that could be made available to help build our community.
Because of the imminent HK Summit, the last cupla months I've constantly
been asked "How many folks are going from <insert country or region
here>?". I have to say I don't know other than the few people I'm in
personal contact with. I think having some sort of country/region stats
will help individuals and businesses make a decision to get involved. For
a startup or small org considering summit sponsorship, seeing some stats
on country attendance would be something that I would like to know if
their market was regional.
It might also be great to see country/region stats for the Foundation
membership to see how successful we are in having our local UG members
join up. As an example, if we have 600 UG members and only 50 are OSF
members, then we have might have work to do to find out why.
Another reason (and this is fresh in mind whilst I've been engaging with
someone recently in Paraguay to start a UG there), it might help all of us
with membership drives around the world and encourage people to form UGs
if they can see there are actually others in their country/region/city
that are members, or if there aren't. This is justification alone IMHO.
I can't actually think of any reasons not to publish country/regional
stats.
Cheers
Tristan
