Hello folks (especially upstream trainers and mentors) I'm planning on sending a notification to all people who registered for Upstream Training Vancouver, telling them the next steps. In the past we've asked people to start sharing their thoughts and plans ahead of the training and engage with the mentors, so they can help students pick a low-hanging-fruit bug and get their dev-environment ready for the live sessions. I'll send all applicants something along the lines below, with instructions to contact the alias upstream-training(a)openstack.org (me and Chris Ricker are the recipients, so far, but adding Sylvain and Tim for sure; any more volunteers?) I see from your submission that you're willing to start to improve your Free Software contribution skills. This is exactly what it is about, although most people think it is just for beginners :-) Could you send me a few URLs of your past contributions ? A week before the course, we will choose a contribution that matches your expectations. Something not too easy so you get to learn as much as possible. But not too difficult either so you can complete it in a reasonable timeframe. Do you already have something in mind ? Or a specific contribution skill that you would like to improve ? Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions regarding the training program.

Hi, as a meetup organiser I often have issues finding quality speakers (well known issue) and also sponsors for the meetup (also known but less spoken about). However, each individual group organiser has already a set of company contacts/speakers. So, how about having a shared list (with access restricted to meetup organisers) containing useful contacts. It could have the following structure: * Companies: contact person, type of sponsorship, comments. * Speakers: contact, affiliation, link to presentation (if available) This will allow meetup organisers to contact companies regarding sponsorship. If a company is sponsoring meetup events in country X, they might be interested in doing it in country Y (or not, but it’s worth a try). Do you see any disadvantages with this approach? [openstack-community] [Upstream] Volunteer Lego builders in/near Vancouver

Hello folks, as you probably know Upstream Training uses Lego sets to simulate open source collaboration. It's a fun session with lots of educational value. We have a huge amount of Lego to build before May 16 and we need a place to build the sets in Vancouver or near (Seattle would work well, I think). In the past, we had volunteers receive the Lego sets, assembled them with friends, family, other volunteers and brought them to the training session. It's a lot of fun. Are there people in/near Vancouver interested in receiving a shipment of the Lego sets, assemble them and deliver them on Friday evening or Saturday morning to the convention center? Cheers, stef

[REMINDER] the service Ask OpenStack on https://ask.openstack.org will be down for maintenance on Monday, April 6 from 9am PDT for around 3-4 hours. The downtime is needed to move the service on new infrastructure, powered by OpenStack and puppet script. Once we move to the new server we'll have more upgrades, fixes and all. Marton Kiss, Jeremy Stanley, Evgeny Fadeev and myself will be on call to make the switch as smooth and painless as possible for everybody. It is using the version from pip. I prefer package vs git repo, until we suppose that a packaged version is well tested. Do you know what part affects to solr indexing / search. The english version works well anyway.
