Hi all, SUSE has generously donated a booth (#340) and marketing support to the OpenStack Foundation at [http://www.cloudcomputingexpo.com/] Cloud Expo East 2013 in NYC's Javits Convention Center June 10-13. This event attracts senior technologists including CIOs, CTOs, directors of infrastructure, VPs of technology, IT directors and managers, network and storage managers, network engineers, enterprise architects, and communications and networking specialists. This year, Cloud Expo combines Cloud and Big Data, both on the Expo floor and in the sessions. As usual, we're looking for several booth volunteers. I will be there for setup/teardown and the entire show. Please reply if you can help out during these hours, and whether or not you require a pass: Monday, June 10, 6:30-8pm (reception) Tuesday, June 11, 10am-12:30pm, 3-5:30pm Wednesday, June 12, 10am-12:30pm, 3-5:30pm Thursday, June 13, 10am-12:30pm, 2:30-5pm Many OpenStack companies are sponsors of this event. These will be distributed during setup hours on June 10 and picked up at the end of the show on June 13. Hello, We're building a public OpenStack implementation in Nairobi and over time, the rest of the continent. Is anybody on the list interested in talking about OpenStack in the African context or in starting a virtual meetup about it? I'd like to get more feedback about it and meet more people who are interested in the logistics of launching a cloud platform here. I'm also excited to get people not on the continent in the group if they have an interest. Based on feedback, I'll try to set up some sort of Hangout or something along those lines. Hello everyone A strong and warm greetings from Quito-Ecuador. My name is Daniel Nuñez. I have several months researching and using OpenStack and I really want to continue because is a technology with great potential. Here in Ecuador is a little known, for this reason I want to create the OpenStack User Group Ecuador. Documentation for communities (here<https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStackUserGroups/HowTo#Starting_a_new_Op…>) is information for meetups, hackathons, etc., more focused on the organization of events, but I'm not clear how a new OSUG becomes visible. How the OpenStack Foundation recognizes and registers these groups? Creating a new OSUG is subject to review and / or approval of OpenStack Foundation? How to get a mentor for my OSUG? (the reference mentor sends a page without information). I appreciate your help with some information.

Rick Rick Bauer Technical Programs Manager Open Networking Foundation ---------------------------------------------------------- Press Releases Open Networking Foundation Launches Industry's First Open-Source "OpenFlowT Driver" Contest Competition to Encourage Implementation, Interoperability of the OpenFlow Standard OPEN NETWORKING SUMMIT, Santa Clara, Calif., April 17, 2013 - The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced the industry's first competition to create an open-source "OpenFlowT Driver." The competition is open to the worldwide development community to create an interoperable open-source implementation of the latest OpenFlow standard. ONF intends the competition to produce an OpenFlow driver that everyone from network equipment vendors and ISVs to operators, and larger open-source projects can use for easy transitions between different implementations of the OpenFlow protocol. The winner of the "OpenFlow Driver" competition will be awarded one grand prize of $50,000. "ONF is committed to solving market needs in very practical ways," said Dan Pitt, executive director of the Open Networking Foundation. "This competition is designed to encourage additional SDN innovation by seeking additional open-sourced technology solutions. We want this OpenFlow Driver to be of use for global developers of OpenFlow products, making it easier for them to build value around and easily update the OpenFlow protocol component with the latest ONF specifications as they evolve." The competition is open to all organizations and individuals worldwide interested in developing an OpenFlow driver that any developer can use in a controller or switch to maintain compatibility among switches and controllers. The contest will open for submissions on April 16, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time, and will close on August 15, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. Judges, who will be selected by the Foundation, will critique on the following: * Compliance with the OpenFlow specification standard * Correctness of operation with test harness * Ease with which the submission can be integrated into a controller * Completeness of the implementation * Clarity of the code and architecture * Memory footprint * Potential performance and scaling of the architecture * Portability of the code * Modularity of the code * Extensibility and maintainability of the code * Integration with multiple programming languages * Performance and scalability of the code The winner will be announced on September 30, 2013. The winning entry will be provided under both Apache 2.0 and GPL dual-licenses for maximum compatibility with both open-source projects and commercial ones.
