Hello everyone, My name is Pierre and I'm a proud OpenStacker since 3 years now. I'm not a dev, I'm a pure ops. For 3 years, my job has been to make OpenStack works, and everybody knows that it's a fulltime job. I think my company do a lot for the OpenStack adoption in France. We are (a big) part of a french government project based on OpenStack. Today, production applications are running on OpenStack. It's the first private cloud in the french government. We also work for one of the biggest retailer in the world, in a huge project OpenStack-based project. We are about 10 Ops folks working on these projects. We also co-organise one meetup a month in Paris ( http://www.meetup.com/fr-FR/OpenStack-France/) welcoming 100 people each time. We spend a lot of time for the french OpenStack community, and we love it! "We are OpenStack", but you know what, I don't really feel to be part of this "We". And I think I'm not the only ops folks feeling this. Today, I'm booking flights for Austin. I'm happy to be able to attend every summit as I can afford flight tickets and hotel, with money earned from OpenStack jobs! But I have to admit that I'm very very (very) very angry at the OpenStack foundation when I have to pay from $600 to $1000 my Summit tickets. At the last summit, I went to the ambassador's session to speak about this. My point was that people spending time for the community should have an easier access to the summit by giving them "Active Community Contributors" Pass. The only answer I had was "If you can't afford the ticket, use the travel program". No. That's not a good solution, because we don't want to beg for something we deserve! It's not a money issue, everything is about recognition. Also, there is a selection for admission. What kind of metrics are used to say yes or no? I think there is an easy solution, using local ambassadors to measure the events and talk to events organizer. There is not so many people... Then, I went to the "feedback session" of the summit, and said that I was really involved in OpenStack, and I deserved an "Active Ops Contributor" badge. Everybody agreed. The ATC program is B.R.O.K.E.N. My only solution? Make a bullshit commit, correct something in the docs, correct a typo in a comment… not very interesting. Here is one of my $1200 single character commit: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/20076/ . And this makes me an "Active Contributor" for two summits?? I know that there is no metric to measure Ops work for OpenStack project. If we use surveys, lots of OpenStack in production environments will suddenly appear by magic. To be honest, I don't have a magic solution. I'm still thinking about it… If you have any idea, feel free. We are all OpenStack, not only Developers. Hi, All I want to make the qemu communicate with iscsi target using libiscsi directly, and I followed https://review.openstack.org/#/c/135854/ to add 'volume_drivers = iscsi=nova.virt.libvirt.volume.LibvirtNetVolumeDriver’ in nova.conf and then restarted nova services and cinder services, but still the volume configuration of vm is as bellow: <disk type='block' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw' cache='none'/> <source dev='/dev/disk/by-path/ip-10.75.195.205:3260-iscsi-iqn.2010-10.org.openstack:volume-076bb429-67fd-4c0c-9ddf-0dc7621a975a-lun-0'/> <target dev='vdb' bus='virtio'/> <serial>076bb429-67fd-4c0c-9ddf-0dc7621a975a</serial> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </disk> I use centos7 and Liberty version of OpenStack. Could anybody tell me how can I achieve it? Thanks.

Since 2013, the user survey has provided significant insight into what people are deploying and how they're using OpenStack. You can see the most recent results in the October 2015 report[1]. Hi everyone, The Foundation is doubling the amount of folks that will be accepted into the Travel Support Program for the OpenStack Summit Austin. The Travel Support Program aims to facilitate participation of key contributors to attend the OpenStack Summit by covering the costs for their travel and accommodations. The OpenStack Foundation has set aside a fund to support this program. The total amount of the fund is to be divided among the approved key contributors. Mentoring is an important tool for growing our OpenStack community. Mentors help new community members come on board and existing community members expand their skills and reputation. Mentees help their mentors expand their worldview and challenge their mindset. This process of gaining knowledge and challenging existing ideas is vital to our community. The OpenStack community currently has a few levels of mentoring: * Outreachy mentoring - an intense internship-type experience over a particular three month period https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Outreachy. * Upstream University - a two-day class for beginners in the community, held on-site the two days prior to the summit The Women of OpenStack group has seen the need for additional types of mentoring, specifically long term but lightweight mentoring aimed at bringing together mentors and mentees who may not be co-located. * Technical mentoring - mentorship is spread over several months. Mentors with experience in a particular area of OpenStack help their mentees grow in that area. This could be a focus area like release management or marketing, or a particular project like Nova or Neutron. * Career mentoring - mentorship is spread out over several months or years. Mentors help their mentees define what kind of career they'd like in the community and move towards those goals. Mentors and mentees may or may not have the same focus area in the community. We hope to kick off these new mentoring programs before the Austin summit, to tie in with a new Speed Mentoring session there. We are currently looking for mentors of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds to take part in the program pilot. Mentors should have between 1 and 4 hours a month free to spend with their menthe. Dear User Groups and Ambassadors, This is Jaesuk Ahn from Korea User Group. As some of you already know, OpenStack Korea User Group is having the first OpenStack Days event in 2016. (http://event.openstack.or.kr) I was planning to have 10min talk to address how important “User” is for OpenStack Community. Especially, since OpenStack Days becomes somewhat official event of OpenStack community, I would like to emphasize this is official festival of OpenStack. Then, while I am looking into 2016’s upcoming OpenStack Days event, I got one idea. For each OpenStack Days event, it will be fun to show “photo” of other user groups to hold a congratulation sign. For instance, each user group can send us a photo with holding the following comments. "Way to go OpenStack Days Korea” from china “Congratulation on your OpenStack Days Korea” from sydney .. .. Then, I will share these photos for our pre-event PR, and also at the beginning of the OpenStack Days Korea event.
