Interested in attending EuroPython in Berlin, July 21-27? OpenStack has a table there. Red Hat has kindly offered several volunteers, but we'd love to extend the last two opportunities to other community members. [openstack-community] PyCon AU OpenStack Miniconf – Call for proposals now open!

The OpenStack miniconf organisers for PyCon AU are pleased to announce their call for proposals is now open! The OpenStack miniconf is a one day conference held on Friday the 1st of August 2014 in Brisbane before PyCon Australia. The day is dedicated to talks related to the OpenStack project and we welcome proposals of all kinds, from all kinds of speakers - first-time through to super-experienced. The miniconf is a community conference and we are eager to hear from anyone in the community. Presentation subjects may range from reports on OpenStack; technical, community, infrastructure or code talks/discussions; academic or commercial applications; or even tutorials and case studies. If a presentation is interesting and useful to the OpenStack community, it will be considered for inclusion. We also welcome talks that have been given previously in different events - e.g. talks from the OpenStack Summit in Atlanta will be considered for inclusion. The deadline for proposals is the 20th of June. If you submitted OpenStack related talks to the main programme we encourage you to re-submit to the miniconf. If you have friends or colleagues who have something valuable to contribute, twist their arms to tell us about it! [openstack-community] Improving the OpenStack Community Code of Conduct

hello all while we're getting ready to launch the OpenStack Groups portal I noticed that we have multiple 'code of conducts' and we should probably merge them into one to clarify things. There are two classes of OpenStack CoCs, one inspired by Ubuntu's CoC version 1 and another more comprehensive document used for OpenStack Summits. Here are the main URLs: - Appendix 6 in Foundation's bylaws - http://www.openstack.org/legal/community-code-of-conduct/ - cloned also on https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Conduct (probably somewhere else, too --wikis) - Summit events Code of Conduct - https://www.openstack.org/summit/openstack-summit-atlanta-2014/the-openstac… - which refers to Appendix 6 Appendix 6 is our 'original' document, lean and simple but it has shortcomings: it's not very clear on what is acceptable/unacceptable behavior and, mostly, doesn't say what to do if one thinks the code has been violated. The Summit Code of Conduct is a lot more explicit, provides examples of what is unacceptable, lists points of contact to report violations and the protocol that will be followed for investigation. Problem is that Appendix 6 cannot be changed easily*. I suggest that we put on one single web page a Code of Conduct based on what we use for Summit events, make that text a bit more general so that Summits can reuse it, keep the reference to Appendix 6. The end result should be a complete and modern Code of Conduct for the whole community to use, online and offline, for all events using the OpenStack brand.
