What is it? How does it work? In this talk, Eric Windisch will introduce you to Docker and the integrations for Nova and Heat, along with usage examples and installation instructions. Eric Windisch has been involved in OpenStack since the Bexar release in 2011. He has been building compute automation since 2001 and is currently working to build a new generation of cloud and container technologies at Docker, Inc. OpenContrail and OpenStack OpenContrail is an open source and standards-based project for SDN controller that delivers network virtualization and enables the migration of applications and IT resources to more flexible private or hybrid cloud environments. OpenContrail has been developed to work with the OpenStack cloud management platform and integrates with OpenStack as a provider to the Neutron networking as a service project. Focusing on simplifying OpenStack cloud deployment and management, OpenContrail aims to provide true end-to-end open source solutions for building scalable clouds. Michael Langdon, Distinguished Engineer at Juniper Networks, will give an overview of the OpenContrail internal architecture, and extend the discussion to OpenStack Neutron integration and implementation details. In addition to main network virtualization use cases, Michael will cover OpenContrail discrete features and unique value to open community and enterprises. Ian is the Director of Engineering at Inktank, the company delivering Inktank Ceph Enterprise. He will be flying over to discuss Ceph integration with OpenStack at a deep technical level, and also for the beer. Ceph is a fully open source distributed object store, network block device, and file system designed for reliability, performance, and scalability from terabytes to exabytes. Ceph offers a Swift and S3-compatible REST API for seamless data access, a network block device for large images or volumes, and native support for Qemu/KVM, libvirt, CloudStack, and OpenStack which makes it quite a versatile storage platform. Join us for a walkthrough of the Ceph architecture, its current status, how it integrates with OpenStack, and plans for future development. [openstack-community] OpenStack Summit proposal voting - not a fan

Hi all, Rather than just complain into the ether, I wanted to let people know why I don't like the voting process for conference proposals and see if I'm the only one. I don't think that the voting process is the best way to gauge whether proposals will be good for the conference. There are a few reasons for that: * Having to hawk & promote proposal(s) is kind of unseemly, and makes us look small, I think. Hundreds of people going "vote for me!" doesn't make us look good. * Some people don't want to pitch themselves, others don't have access to as big a platform to promote * The same issues exist with this system which exist with board voting - there is a possibility that people will vote for their colleagues, not out of any corruption, but just because no-one has time to rate all the proposals, and they're more likely to rate those submitted by people they know more highly * Also, it's a self-selecting group of people who rate proposals - I don't think voters will be representative of summit attendees * After all is said and done, the proposals which are chosen by the voters are guidelines to the people who choose the talks for the tracks, the track leaders I have been a track leader for the last number of summits, and I've seen first hand great presentations get very low numbers of votes, while others which are not as interesting get very high numbers of votes and high ratings. Personally, I would be happy if we could change the system to remove the "pimp my talk" aspect for Summits. [openstack-community] 2 Pavilion pods available at Gartner IT Infrastructure and Data Center Conference in Sydney

OpenStack and eight community members were successful at this conference in December in Las Vegas. Each collected a smaller number of contacts than at a typical event, but much higher quality. This Gartner conference attracts the perfect audience for us. We're excited to be expanding our presence at Gartner events in a similar Pavilion with a theater, in Sydney, May 21-22. Four community members are already committed. There are two spots left. The cost is about 10,000 AUD (approx $9,000 US), and includes a pod, two 15-20 minute theater presentations/demos, logo/url on the web site, a 1-1 analyst meeting, a full conference pass, booth staff passes, and more.
