Hi Kenny,

The user survey is not intended to track marketshare, but the data says users are increasingly happy with OpenStack (NPS scores trending up), moving their deployments into production (20% more in production YoY), finding cost savings to be the top business driver and come from increasingly diverse company sizes and industries. We are also working on more third party validation and metrics around OpenStack growth and adoption patterns.

You can download the 2H 2016 highlights from the user survey report here: https://www.openstack.org/user-survey/ <https://www.openstack.org/user-survey/>

In terms of third party data, Heavy Reading <http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20161011005287/en/Heavy-Reading-Survey-86-Percent-Global-Telecoms> said 86% of telcos think OpenStack is important to their business and 451 Research <https://www.sdxcentral.com/articles/news/openstack-revenue-will-top-5b-by-2020-says-451-research/2016/10/> estimates a $5.7B market for OpenStack by 2020. We are also working with 451 Research to gather more stats about market penetration in their upcoming omnibus survey. Red Hat <https://www.redhat.com/en/about/blog/openstack-production-deployments-more-double-2016-red-hat-survey-finds> cited a jump from 16% to 43% of their customer base who are running OpenStack in production from 2015 to 2016. And IDC is working on a big OpenStack report that we expect will land in April. We did not commission the report, but became an IDC customer this year so we can work closely with them, and encourage other OpenStack members who have relationships to do the same.

Useful links with third party validation: we aggregate data from relevant analyst reports at https://www.openstack.org/analysts/ <https://www.openstack.org/analysts/> and case studies at https://www.openstack.org/users <https://www.openstack.org/users> and http://superuser.openstack.org/section/user-stories/

Great thoughts, and we’ll continue to share more data with the community as these reports come to fruition over the next few months! We also welcome any ideas on specific data or metrics we should be seeking.

Best,
Lauren

We issued a news release <https://www.openstack.org/news/view/292/openstacks-global-traction-expands-according-to-independent-research> today, and you can download the report here <http://www.openstack.org/analysts>.
