Hi everyone,

The Kilo release is out, and the press release is live. Rather than playing up individual new features this cycle, we’re taking the opportunity to focus on interoperability (defcore & testing) and the maturing core services, balanced with initiatives to integrate new technologies like bare metal and containers. We’ve deliberately pulled back from marketing the release itself this round, but have used the opportunity to set up our key messages around interoperability and innovation leading into the Summit. Please find more resources and stats below that may be helpful for conversations leading into the Summit.

Kilo is the 11th release of OpenStack software
OpenStack provides broad support for popular enterprise and open source technologies. 113 drivers and plugins across compute, storage and networking are supported in the Kilo release
1,492 contributors to Kilo; individuals affiliated with 169 organizations contributed to the release
394 new features and 7,257 bug fixes across the integrated release and common libraries, a huge jump in bug fixes from the Juno release
The Internationalization team translated 792,200 strings during the Kilo release cycle
Top companies contributing code included Red Hat, HP, IBM, Mirantis, Rackspace, OpenStack Foundation, Yahoo!, NEC, Huawei and SUSE 
The OpenStack community has more than 23,745 individual members across more than 160 countries and nearly 500 companies
Release Highlights
Greater stability and scale across the newly defined OpenStack core services
First full release of the bare metal service, Ironic, for provisioning workloads that require direct access to hardware
More rigorous testing standards to ensure consistency across more than 100 drivers and plugin options
New object storage support for erasure coding provides the ability to balance density and durability based on the application
Improved identity federation to enable hybrid and multi-cloud use cases
Evolving development process to speed integration of technologies like DNS, key management and containers

OpenStack Summit
