Hi everyone,

The OpenStack Foundation Board of Directors had a telephone meeting today at 9:00am PDT/1600 UTC. The meeting lasted just about 2 hours, but the Board ran through quite a few updates and short discussions on a number of topics.

First, the Board approved the minutes of the April 14th meeting that took place in Portland before the OpenStack Summit. Those minutes are now on the wiki: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Governance/Foundation/14Apr2013BoardMinutes

Following that, there was a fairly detailed discussion covering possible ways the Foundation can help increase the training that is available from the OpenStack ecosystem and accelerate the spread of OpenStack knowledge around the world. The Board did not reach a final consensus on any specific programs, but agreed that several potential proposals should be refined and detailed for presentation in an upcoming Board meeting.

Simon Anderson discussed the gold membership committee that was established in the previous board meeting. The Board voted to added new members to the committee, bringing the full membership to Simon Anderson (chairperson), Nick Barcet, Devin Carlin, Joseph George, Rob Hirschfeld, and Sean Roberts. Simon also reviewed a draft update to the existing criteria and guidelines for new gold member applicants.

I gave an update on the results of the Foundation in the first quarter of this year and reviewed key statistics for Q1 2013 as compared to Q4 2012 and discussed some of the general trends that we've seen among users and the international OpenStack community.

Rob Hirschfeld introduced a discussion on the topic of OpenStack core and called for Board volunteers to help flesh out a more detailed definition of OpenStack core. The Board members who volunteered to participate plan to meet in June to have a discussion and then present to the full Board at a follow on meeting.

As the meeting closed, the Board touched quickly on several topics including interfacing with standards bodies and the existing transparency policy as well as the ongoing process to update and document it.

As a reminder, upcoming Board meetings are listed on the wiki (https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Governance/Foundation) and agendas for the meetings are kept there. Also, remote connection information is sent out prior to the meetings, and I was happy to see that several community members joined today to listen in as the meeting happened.

Jonathan
