I believe you copied in the wrong Lindsey.

Thanks,

Hi Joanne,

Please let us know if you’d like to talk sponsorships for the OpenStack Summit Sydney in November. We’d love for Rackspace to have strong visibility at the event, and our process is the first sponsors to sign are the first to select their booth space.

We’re starting booth selection later in July, so wanted to see if you’d like to connect and learn more about the event. Erin and Kendall are the event leads, and we’d be happy to chat with you.

As Christian mentioned, we talked to Commonwealth Bank and are hoping to have them speak at the Summit. The call for speakers is open now and the deadline is July 14th.

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi Joanne,

Apologies for the delay in my reply.  Lauren’s email is: lauren@openstack.org. I think we should consider being a “Spotlight” sponsor in Sydney, which is the same level of sponsorship we had this week in Boston. Also, if CBA is up for it, we should work with the Foundation/Lauren in hopes to get CBA a keynote slot in Sydney (same thing we did with GE in Boston).

Please let me know if any discussions re: OS Summit Sydney have taken place since you sent me this email.  And regardless, let me know if you want to set up a call with me, you and Lauren to discuss options.

Thanks.

Christian

Hi Christian,

I know it’s all about Boston OpenStack right now but despite raising this with Merry Beekman and Rachel Woodson, I’ve got no one coming back to me with anything definitive. I’ve said I’ll get an idea of what the sponsorship commitment should or could look like and then come back to them.

Can you therefore provide me with contact details for Lauren Sell.

Cheers, Jo

Let's wait for DK.  If she doesn't respond then I'll reach out to her manager, Travis Arthur.

Thanks Christian.  Is it worthwhile starting the conversation with Lauren Sell now or wait to hear from DK?

Hi Joanne,

It is nice to hear from you and congrats on the cool customer testimonial and “shout out” from Taylor Rhodes earlier today :)  I can provide you with contacts at the Foundation, but will also press with DK again to get an answer.  I’ll send a note now to DK (cc’ing you) asking her to respond.

The main contact at the OS Foundation that I work with is Lauren Sell.  She leads marketing for the Foundation and is a former Racker.

Thanks.

Christian

Hi Christian,

I hope you are well.  No joy getting a response.  I was hoping you might have some OpenStack Foundation contacts (or any agency that manages the Summit that you deal with) I could reach out to regards sponsorship.  We will look to participate in any way we can, albeit many sponsorship options will be out of reach but we will also look to RedHat locally to see if there is opportunity for joint sponsorship.

Cheers, Jo

Hey DK – following up here.  This topic might be covered in the 9am CST global planning meeting, but want to ensure we have clarity re: sponsorship of events by region.

Thanks.

Copying in Danielle.

DK – I asked your team about the OpenStack Summit Sydney (if it was already on our “planned” events list) and they told me that the regions are responsible for funding events in their given geography this year.  I reached out to Joanne in Australia to see if they are planning to sponsor, but per her note below, they don’t have the budget and weren’t aware that regional teams are responsible for funding events in their area.

Hoping you can provide some insight here.  Are certain events considered “global” and subject to funding from a central events budget — or, is each region responsible for funding any event in their area during 2017?

Thanks.

Christian

Hi Christian,

I was not provided with that insight.  We would certainly not be able to fund OS the way the US has in the past.  We also have not assigned any budget to the OS Summit, only the AU conference taking place in May.

Given this is a global event, I am surprised by the decision to have local budgets fund.  We are not in a position to do so.

Suggestions on where to from here?

Cheers, Jo

Hi Joanne,

Happy New Year!  I wanted to follow up with you regarding the OS Summit Sydney taking place during the 2nd half of this year.  I was just informed by the US events team that in 2017, each region will be responsible for funding events in their geographic area.  I believe this is the result of marketing funds moving out of the BU and into the regional marketing groups.

Is that your understanding as well?  If so, is the AUS team planning on sponsoring the OS Summit Sydney?

Thanks.

Christian

Hi Christian,

Now that Barcelona is out of the way, I assume you’ll be thinking about the OS Summit in Sydney for next year.

I just wanted to keep connected as we are hopeful that one of our recently signed customers – Commonwealth Bank (7th largest bank in the world) will be free to talk on-stage about their OS journey with Rackspace.

We are also looking at some research the UK recently did around OpenStack in the Enterprise for the Australian OS Conf in May and thought we could potentially scale this globally to be relevant around the time of the Summit i.e. press/demand gen, etc.  Given the UK have just wrapped this up (attaching in case you aren’t aware and articlehere), it makes sense to follow their model to ensure we have their results incorporated.  Because it plays to the same themes/messaging that Amanda and her team are working on with their OpenStack in the Enterprise campaign, there is a lot of substance in bringing all of this together globally.  Perhaps we could even have Commonwealth Bank participate in the ROI study planned?

Anyway food for thought during your planning phase.  We are keen to make a lot more noise with regards OS Private Cloud in our region – we are seeing big Enterprise demand for it, especially in FinServices and partnering with RedHat or Intel, could be a good way to get this funded.

Cheers, Jo

Hi Joanne,

Thanks for reaching out.  The 2017 planning process for marketing just started this week.  No plans yet re: how we’ll approach the Boston and Sydney Summits next year.  Assuming we participate in some form/fashion, we’ll definitely want to partner with you on planning and execution.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I wanted to understand if you’d starting the planning for this event yet (I realise Barcelona is the focus) and how you’d like to work together on this.

Cheers, Jo
