I wanted to share some news about a transition you will start to see in the coming weeks/months around the official OpenInfra Foundation website. As you probably know, we have been using openinfra.dev as the primary url for the Foundation’s website and mailing lists since we launched as the OpenInfra Foundation in 2020. As of December 2, we’ll start to transition to openinfra.org as our primary domain name. There are quite a few steps involved, so I wanted to communicate the overall plan and timeline with the community. Also know that while the goal will be to use openinfra.org as the primary domain, we want the transition to be seamless to the community, so we plan on setting things up so any uses of openinfra.dev will continue to work indefinitely. Here is a high level timeline for the transition. These dates are ranges to account for any hiccups or shifting priorities. This does not capture every step in the process, but hopefully provides an idea of when specific changes will be seen. Dec 2-6: Switch the primary website url to openinfra.org. During a short period, both openinfra.org and openinfra.dev will work to allow for full testing of integrations. After that, openinfra.dev will redirect to openinfra.org. We will also make adjustments to related services like OpenInfraID to reflect the new url. Dec 2-6: Transition lists.openinfra.dev to lists.openinfra.org, ensuring all lists remain in tact and any replies/new messages sent to .dev will redirect to .org. Jeremy Stanley is leading this task and will provide more details shortly. Dec 2-6: Update external references such as social media accounts. Helena Spease will head this effort, updating references on external sites where we have a presence to share the new url and hopefully eliminate confusion. Dec 10-12: Transition the board wiki. Jeremy and Thierry will help move the current instance of board.openinfra.dev to board.openinfra.org. Similar to other items, we’ll ensure the previous url redirects to the new one. Jan 20-24: Transition of staff, support, and Foundation emails. This step is more involved than others and given the timing around holidays and board elections, we’re pushing this to early next year. Similarly, we’ll ensure openinfra.dev and all old emails stay in tact so there should not be any lost communications. FYI, email aliases have already been established for openinfra.org, so any emails sent ahead of the transition will arrive at the appropriate .dev inbox. Please reach out to me directly if you have any questions/concerns about the above. Thanks all! Cheers, Wes
