[OpenStack Foundation] OpenNebula spreading FUD on Openstack?
Dear all, I have just came across this blog post in the OpenNebula website. I was shocked when I read it, but honestly not surprised. http://blog.opennebula.org/?p=4372 Probably a smart and nice response from the Foundation would be the right move. I wouldn't dignify it with a direct response - we've got a refresh of the 'open' wiki page in progress, I'll see if there are specifically confusing aspects of 'open' that we could highlight: Open to many vendors (not just one) Open to debate. You are probably right. I will take my pills to take my pressure down ;-) The fact is that the post is smart and with good arguments, but about the 'Production readiness' of Openstack he argues that Openstack is 'Production/Enterprise ready' only if it's supported by Vendors. This is not true. It's Production ready because of a collaborative effort of the community. Vendor support is a (natural, by the way) need of enterprise of good support and easy product delivery. So assuming that Openstack is 'production ready only if you use Semi-Vendor-Locked openstack components' is incorrect and opens the gate to fragmentation if vendors believe so. Let's look at the Android community, If we change the product 'Openstack' to 'Android', that would mean that the product readiness of Android comes from the efforts of each manufacturer, and not from the Android community by itself. Everybody knows this is not true. Ok, these are my early morning thoughts. Randy Bias gave a very nice answer on that post. I agree with Joshua's comment: engaging in a pissing contest does us no good. /stef
At the end of the day, people will always be wrong on the internet. And there will always be someone calling you bad names. When you do anything you garner critics. Take it as a sign of success that people are shouting you down. -Matt On Fri, Mar 15, 2013 at 12:11 AM, Stefano Maffulli <stefano@openstack.org> wrote:
