[openstack-community] OpenStack User Group Ecuador
Hello everyone A strong and warm greetings from Quito-Ecuador. My name is Daniel Nuñez. I have several months researching and using OpenStack and I really want to continue because is a technology with great potential. Here in Ecuador is a little known, for this reason I want to create the OpenStack User Group Ecuador. Documentation for communities (here<https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStackUserGroups/HowTo#Starting_a_new_OpenStack_User_Group>) is information for meetups, hackathons, etc., more focused on the organization of events, but I'm not clear how a new OSUG becomes visible. How the OpenStack Foundation recognizes and registers these groups? Creating a new OSUG is subject to review and / or approval of OpenStack Foundation? How to get a mentor for my OSUG? (the reference mentor sends a page without information). I appreciate your help with some information.
Hello and good day. Our team here in Manila has a similar question. We have also been using OpenStack over the previous year to learn more about it and its applicability in solving some key requirements and and support our product solutions. I am also not clear on how one gets visibility also. This will directly support credibility in our efforts if we have some form of registry as an OSUG in the community site perhaps. Hope you may help. Good luck too Daniel. If you need to discuss or find ways where we can share ideas, just let us know. Thank you and greetings, Dean Marc. Hi Guys, Check these links first: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStackUserGroups/HowTo https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStackUserGroups For example here in Hungary, we registered a meetup page like this to track events and attendees: http://www.meetup.com/OpenStack-Hungary-Meetup-Group/ We are working on an enhanced OpenStack groups page where everybody can register his own group, but it is still progress. For that we have the wiki page https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStackUserGroups and the map on http://openstack.org/community Once you have aggregated a group of people interested in learning/sharing knowledge about OpenStack in your local area, you can create a group in the most confortable place for you: some use meetup.com, others have google groups or linkedin or facebook... anything that you think will make your group more visible in your area. Add those details to the wiki page and I'll add them to the map on community/ As Marton said, in the near future we hope to provide more tools to build your local user group. /stef -- Ask and answer questions on https://ask.openstack.org
Sean @PDX Summit told me that meetup.com registration is free, could someone check it? Márton 2013/5/13 Stefano Maffulli <stefano@openstack.org>

Last time I checked (in January) it cost something to start the group and it has recurring fees. /stef Marton Kiss <marton.kiss@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Thanks to your suggestions I created the group in G+ Openstack Ecuador<https://plus.google.com/communities/102070666375831873027?hl=es>, plus a contact's network in LinkedIn (here<http://www.linkedin.com/groups/OpenStack-Ecuador-5012947/about>) and a twitter profile @OpenStackEC <https://twitter.com/OpenStackEC>. I am very happy for the welcome. I hope soon to organize meetings and events. Best Regards 2013/5/13 Stefano Maffulli <stefano@openstack.org>

Perfect, very good idea :)
How the OpenStack Foundation recognizes and registers these groups?
It's as simple as adding the information about the group to the wiki page: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStackUserGroups At the moment that's all you have to do to get started. Then it's a good idea to send a message to the General mailing list to announce the existence of the new group with all the relevant addresses like URL of the group, mailing list details, etc and the date for the first meeting (if you have already scheduled one).
Creating a new OSUG is subject to review and / or approval of OpenStack Foundation?
There is no formal review process: we're happy to have you on board any time in any way.
How to get a mentor for my OSUG? (the reference mentor sends a page without information).
We haven't created that page yet but I think we can use this list to discuss how to get started. Ask here any questions you may have. /stef -- Ask and answer questions on https://ask.openstack.org
