[openstack-community] Idea: OpenStack Summit Indonesia
Hi aLl there are several discussion offline between member of OpenStack Indonesia Chapter (OSUG Indonesia), this afternoon, regarding several program such as TRyStack and Summit I think Trystack program dont need to ask here, but the Summit We think to create a Indonesian OpenSTack Summit, because there are several live openstack in Indonesia, and I am inspired how China contribution in OpenStack, and our friend create OpenSTack Summit China do we need permission or we from OpenStack User GRoup can create this one? is there a brand restriction to start the Summit esp we believe one day may be OpenSTack Foundation will create OpenStack Summit after Hongkong, may be in Beijing or Singapore or Jakarta :) aha.. -- Frans Thamura (曽志胜) Shadow Master and Lead Investor Meruvian. Hi Frans, I think a summit is something different. We organised a one-day Central-European Openstack conference in this May (CEEDay), and "Openstack in Action 4" in Paris ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/openstack-in-action-4-tickets-7645801799) is the same story. Doing a conference is easy, you just need: - attendees - venue - sponsors - speakers (with good sessions / topics) - some food (optional) - lot of hard work (or optionally cash to outsource this to an event-organiser company) If you have a real plan for the above items, let's talk with the Foundation, and I'm sure they can help somehow. I support the idea, we did similar events here in Europe, I just remarked that calling it a summit is a bit confusing to me. When you plan to host this larger-size event? M. 2013/11/27 Frans Thamura <frans@meruvian.org>

there are a lot of events organized around the world about OpenStack but only a few of them are organized by the OpenStack Foundation. What usually happens is that a set of people/organizations decide to dedicate one day or more for an OpenStack-related conference or meeting. The European OpenStack days mentioned by Marton are one example, the ones in Israel are another, OpenStack Tokio Day etc. The OpenStack Foundation can support such events in different ways. If you and others in Indonesia want to organize a conference about OpenStack all you have to do is to get started with a proposal for the conference itself (will it be aimed at university students? local government? businesses?), then think about a venue and dates and issue a call for speakers. You may want to talk to your nearest Ambassador(s) [in your case they may be Kavit Munshi, Ye Lu, Akira Yoshiyama and Akihiro Hasegawa as they have other suggestions based on their experience]. You may also want to get some support from local sponsors since that will help the Foundation decide how to support it, if a sponsorship is needed, etc. This suggestion is valid also for other groups around the world: if you want to organize events for OpenStack talk to your nearest Ambassador and pick their brain for ideas: http://www.openstack.org/blog/2013/11/announcing-our-first-openstack-ambassa... Hi Stef I throw this idea, because want to know about brand restriction, i can see that we can use OpenStack as a conference. Yes I think will be interesting if the conf (several speakers speak in same time) use OpenStack name rather Cloud Conf. glad to know OpenStack Ambassador has been there and a lot of UG people in our first os ambassadors.
