From allison at openstack.org Thu Feb 1 21:56:32 2018 From: allison at openstack.org (Allison Price) Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2018 15:56:32 -0600 Subject: [Foundation Board] Summit Updates, Queens Release & OpenStack Community Roadmap Message-ID: OpenStack Marketing Bulletin February 1, 2018 The Summit has evolved over the years to cover more than just OpenStack, and for Vancouver and Berlin we’re building content across the open infrastructure ecosystem to reflect that. In addition to OpenStack-related sessions, we’ll be featuring the newest project at the Foundation, Kata Containers, as well as recruiting many others from projects like Ansible, Ceph, Kubernetes, ONAP and more. To keep the focus on users, we’ve also organized Tracks around specific problem domains . Vancouver Summit deadlines you need to know: Vancouver Summit registration now open - early bird ends early April Call for Presentations - closes next week on February 8 Additional Event Sponsorship Information Today, sponsorship opportunities for the Berlin Summit became available. Additionally, there is still time to sponsor the Vancouver Summit and Dublin PTG . Have questions? Reach out to summit at openstack.org . OpenStack @ Industry Events February 2: CHAOSSCon Europe, Brussels, Belgium; Ildiko Vancsa, OpenStack Keynote 3-4: FOSDEM, Brussels, Belgium; Table in Building K, Level 1 March 20-21: Open Compute Summit, San Francisco, CA; Booth C22 Industry event CFP Deadlines This is your opportunity to talk about OpenStack at various industry events. Below is a list of upcoming CFP deadlines for 2018. Expect a Queens Preview Webinar the week of February 19. For this release, we’ve created a landing page that will pull in features PTLs have marked as a feature highlight. This page should answer, “What are the top 3 most important things coming in Queens?” for each project. This page is currently empty, but you can expect to see features start rolling in the week of January 22. Queens Highlights Page. We want to reduce PTLs receiving multiple asks for their top features, and instead work together as product marketers to have a single follow up call to answer questions not covered on the Highlights Page (a press pool style call). If you are interested in information beyond the Highlights Page, please email anne at openstack.org . OpenStack Community Roadmap The Roadmap Team is getting ready to start working on the OpenStack Rocky roadmap, which is how we communicate to potential users, current users and product managers what is coming next in OpenStack. The Roadmap Team is looking for a few technical marketing and product marketing hands to get involved. If you’re interested, please email anne at openstack.org . Thanks! We recognize that everyone is traveling in on the Sunday so we aren't making formal plans for a board dinner, but if you arrive in time we'll see you at the pub. On Monday evening, after the board meeting, we will participate in a casual evening meet with the PTG attendees. Details soon. A collaborative effort across 10 organizations (AT&T, B.Yond, Cisco, Ericsson, HPE, IMT Atlantique, Inmarsat, Red Hat, Verizon and Walmart Labs), the paper outlines use cases and technical requirements for edge computing. The white paper is a result of efforts kicked off at the OpenDev Edge event in September 2017, and the Edge Computing Group will continue their work at the Project Teams Gathering in Dublin this month. Vancouver Summit Last week, the Vancouver Summit CFP closed and several organizations submitted topics around their use case for the first time including Target, Progressive Insurance and JPMorgan Chase, and Worldpay. Additional users including Wells Fargo, TELUS, Riot Games and China Railway Corporation. The expansion of the Summit content to cover open infrastructure has also brought exciting new submissions across the topics of Container Infrastructure and Edge Computing, including submissions from Google and Microsoft cloud teams. Community voting opens next week - check out these sessions among many others. Note: the agenda is still going through the community selection process, so not all of these users may be chosen to speak in Vancouver. Both registration and sponsor sales are open for the Vancouver and Berlin Summits . OpenStack Case Study Pipeline In addition to the organizations in the Summit CFP, there are more case studies currently being developed with Mercedes Benz R&D and The University of Edinburgh. The Foundation team also met with users including the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Tencent and China Mobile during a trip earlier this month. We are also reaching out to companies in the ecosystem that have case studies developed that can be added to openstack.org/users. Additionally, an article came out yesterday around Walmart’s cloud footprint referencing their OpenStack environments: Walmart goes to the cloud to close gap with Amazon . OpenStack Queens Release The next release of OpenStack is slated for February 28th and we’ve got some pretty juicy updates across container integration, GPU support, robust enterprise features and ease of use. We’ll be distributing materials to the marketing mailing list next week and scheduling a webinar to preview it with the community on Wednesday at 9 am PT . New for the Queens release is a “Release Highlights” page. The PTLs have selected these as the most important features for their project in Queens. This is the first iteration of the Release Highlights page and it will be an item discussed at the upcoming PTG; if you have suggestions for future pages, please email anne at openstack.org . Release Highlights: https://releases.openstack.org/queens/highlights.html Rocky Roadmap The Roadmap Team will begin generating the roadmap for Rocky and beyond shortly after the Dublin PTG. If you are interested in helping shape the OpenStack Roadmap, please email anne at openstack.org . Kata Containers Activities are heating up in the Kata Containers community. The Architecture Committee now features five members from Intel, Hyper.sh, Huawei, Google and Microsoft, and the “working committee” (basically the marketing/product committee) is meeting biweekly to build out more content for the website and blog. The community is working toward their first major release expected late Q2. If you’re interested in getting involved in development or marketing efforts, check out the meeting schedule and communications channels on katacontainers.io .
